OPC UA Extension for Existing Injection Molding Machines

Haar, November 22, 2018 - At the SPS IPC Drives 2018, Softing Industrial will be presenting the new EUROMAP 63 connectivity of dataFEED OPC Suite. This makes existing injection molding machines with a EUROMAP 63 interface fit for the future, allowing to use these in Industrie 4.0 applications.

Prior to the publication of the new standard EUROMAP 77 with a corresponding OPC UA Companion Specification in the summer of this year, the connection of injection molding machines to MES systems and host computers was carried out for almost 20 years via the EUROMAP 63 interface. Accordingly, today a large number of injection molding machines based on this international standard is in use. However, EUROMAP 63 only uses text files to exchange job and status data and does not provide the option to integrate applications via the OPC UA standard.

The users of these injection molding machines face the challenge of being able to operate their plants in the future as well. Here, above all, the expanded access to machine data, for example for process monitoring and quality assurance, can be seen, which, for example. is required for Industrie 4.0 applications. For this reason, Softing has extended the dataFEED OPC Suite product with an EUROMAP 63 interface. As a result, an OPC UA interface is now also available for these injection molding machines.

"In conversations, our customers from the plastics industry repeatedly commented to us about the lack of integration possibilities of the EUROMAP 63 standard. We are proud that we have found a way to integrate this interface into our dataFEED OPC Suite product. This means that all the doors for expansions and the future realization of Industrie 4.0 applications are now open to our customers' machines," says product manager Andreas Roeck, describing the background to this product development.

Softing’s dataFEED OPC Suite is a comprehensive complete package that covers communication via the OPC standard as well as the implementation of big data solutions and integration in IoT clouds. A modern user interface with intelligent, practice-oriented presettings and an intuitive user interface enables easy and fast configuration of the data exchange. The modular design offers the greatest possible flexibility to the user since he only has to license the required functionality.

dataFEED OPC Suite with the new EUROMAP 63 connectivity will be presented at the SPS IPC Drives exhibition at the Softing booth in hall 5, booth 260.
