OPC UA Server for SINUMERIK 840D sl

26/11/18

Haar, November 26, 2018 - At the SPS IPC Drives 2018 fair, Softing Industrial will for the first time present the new uaGate 840D gateway. It allows to access the complete SINUMERIK 840D sl machine tool data via OPC UA and to reuse these directly in Industrie 4.0 applications.

The SINUMERIK 840D sl CNC controller from Siemens is used in a large number of machine tools, for example for the technologies milling, turning, grinding, nibbling or punching. In addition to the controller data, NC and drive data are also required to carry out the control tasks.

A common requirement is the reuse of machine tool data even outside the Siemens world. Until now, however, only solutions for accessing the data of the integrated SIMATIC S7 controller were available. The new gateway uaGate 840D from Softing now extends the integration possibilities for the CNC controller and, for the first time, also enables access to the NC and drive data via the OPC UA communication technology. This allows important spindle and axis data, such as torque and power consumption, to be read out and further processed. These data then are available for analysis tasks, such as spindle and axis monitoring, and can be used in general in Industrie 4.0 applications.

The product manager Sebastian Schenk is convinced of the uaGate 840D’s benefits for the customers: "Based on our SINUMERIK 840 know-how, we were able to develop this gateway in a very short time. Now, once again, we can offer our customers a solution that gives them significant benefits for implementing Industrie 4.0 applications."

The uaGate 840D gateway will be presented at the SPS IPC Drives exhibition at the Softing stand in hall 5, booth 260 in a live presentation.
